The Clerk of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tarik Kadiri pursues his participation in the 13th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), taking place in Abu Dhabi under the theme: "World Energy Transition – The Global Stocktake." The Assembly features the participation of several ministers and high-level Governmental figures, including the former US Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, and representatives of the private sector, civil society organizations, and international organizations, as well as decision-makers in the energy field. In his statement during the meeting, Rep. Tarik Kadiri shed light on the Moroccan experience in renewable energies, noting in this respect that the Kingdom of Morocco has adopted in the last decade public policies and strategies to achieve an energy transition based on renewable and clean energies.
In the same regard, he added that the Kingdom of Morocco has built one of the largest solar energy plants in the world, which adds up to several wind energy projects in the country, which cover a large proportion of the domestic energy needs. In the same vein, he noted that the Kingdom of Morocco has also elaborated a roadmap for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, and aspires to become one of the leading countries in this field.
On the same occasion, Rep. Kadiri stated that the new vision of the Kingdom of Morocco is based on 100 legislative, regulatory, and tax measures that aim to advance energy efficiency in industry, agriculture, construction, transport, and public lighting. The vision also includes awareness-raising and capacity-building activities. Besides, the Clerk of the House added that the Kingdom of Morocco is the first Arab and African country to adopt a roadmap for the production of green hydrogen and aspires to create a competitive sector for hydrogen and its derivatives by decreasing value-chain costs and creating research and innovation hubs at the national and regional levels.
On the sidelines of this international event, Rep. Tarik Kadiri held a bilateral meeting with the Chairperson of the Energy Committee at the Federal National Council, Mr. Mohammed Issa Al Kashf. During the meeting, the Clerk of the House praised the distinguished bilateral parliamentary ties linking the Moroccan House of Representatives to the Emirati Federal National Council, noting, "It is the fruit of the distinguished political ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates."
Moreover, Rep. Kadiri commended the international leadership of the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates in renewable energies, reflected by the advanced positions of both countries in energy transition. The Clerk of the House also expressed his admiration of the United Arab Emirates as it enjoys rich fossil energy resources, like oil and gas, but chose to invest in the human capital via a very advanced educational system, investing in knowledge, and adopting clean renewable energies.
During the same meeting, Rep. Kadiri expressed the willingness of the House of Representatives to reinforce coordination between the committees on energy in the legislative institutions of the two countries, and exchange legislative expertise and best practices in this field.
