Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccan Expatriates Committee Holds Talks with Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister

Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccan Expatriates Committee at the House of Representatives, Rep. Nadia Bouaida, held talks on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the House, with the member of the Canadian House of Commons, Mr. Robert Oliphant, who is also the Parliamentary Secretary to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister.

At the outset of the meeting, Rep. Bouaida stressed the imperative of consolidating the cooperation ties between the two countries, noting that Canada has a special place in Moroccans' hearts and occupies a central position in the international arena at the political, social, scientific and technology levels.

Rep. Bouaida reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada share the same universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, which our country defends strongly. On the same occasion, she commended the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation led through political dialogue between the two friendly countries.

Rep. Bouaida also highlighted that political dialogue will give new impetus to cooperation between the two countries at the bilateral, regional and international levels. In the same vein, she expressed her strong conviction that such cooperation will meet the aspirations of the officials of both countries.

During the same meeting, Rep. Bouaida gave a brief overview of the major political, social and economic deep and structural reforms that our country has launched during the recent years under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, which gave birth to several grand development projects that covered the various regions of the Kingdom, in order to achieve social integration for all Moroccans and reach economic integration of the Kingdom of Morocco within its regional, subregional and international entourage.

Rep. Bouaida affirmed that the two countries can explore together the perspectives of partnership, in order to give the Morocco-Canada ties the position they really deserve. In this context, she emphasized that parliamentarians must work to consolidate the long-standing ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada.

In their statements, Reps. Khaoula El Kharchi, Nadia El Kansouri and Leila Dahi, the members of the Bureau of the Foreign Affairs Committee, noted that this visit, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada, will contribute to consolidating cooperation between the two countries, mainly at the parliamentary level.

In the same respect, the members of the Bureau of the Foreign Affairs Committee called for intensifying the exchange of visits and expertise, and coordination between the two legislative institutions, in order to defend the causes that concern the two countries within international fora.

For his part, Mr. Robert Oliphant noted that his visit to the Kingdom of Morocco intends to advance bilateral cooperation between Canada and the Kingdom of Morocco and discuss several subregional questions, especially ones concerning Sahel and Sahara.

Mr. Marc Dalton, a member of the Canadian House of Commons, and H.E. Nell Stewart, the Canadian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco also attended the meeting.
