The Board of the House of Representatives held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, February 4th, under the chairmanship of the House’s Speaker Habib El Malki. The meeting raised topics concerning government control, legislation, the House’s agenda, and external relations.
As for government control, the Board set the agenda on matters relating to finance and economy, infrastructure, internal and foreign affairs, and Islamic affairs.
Concerning legislation, the Board reviewed a parliamentary bill relative to criminalizing offences of public authorities against private property and passed it on to the Justice, Legislation and Human Rights Committee. The Board also reviewed a parliamentary bill relative to export-processing zones and passed it on to the Productive Sectors Committee.
Additionally, the Board reviewed standing committees’ agenda and the outcomes of their legislative work and decided to hold a plenary session on Tuesday, February 11th, to examine and vote on finalized legislative texts.
The Board also decided to convene a plenary session on Monday, February 10th, following the plenary session devoted to oral questions. The session will be devoted to electing one member in the constitutional court under the provisions of the Constitution and the organic law relative to the Constitutional Court, and the relevant articles of the Rules of Procedure.
Concerning the closing of the first session of the ongoing legislative year, the Board reviewed the highlights of the fall session, primarily the speech of HM King Mohammed VI on the opening of the legislative year, and decided to conclude the session on Tuesday, February 11th.
About interim exploratory missions, the Board examined the previously approved requests, which are related to social, economic, and cultural matters, and decided to postpone the approval of new requests until the reports of ongoing missions are submitted within the end of March.
As concerns external relations, the Board reviewed several internal and external activities, and decided the following:
1- Take part in the 2020 Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the UN;
2- Organize a regional workshop on “the quota system and its impacts on Arab women’s participation” at the House of Representatives;
3- Take part in the activities of the Pan-African Parliament standing committees;
4- Participate in the 16th session of the general assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean and the 7th congress of Speakers of Parliaments of States Members in the Union for the Mediterranean;
5- Participate in the 64th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York;
6- Participate in the meeting of the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie.
