The Board of the House of Representatives held its weekly meeting on Monday, May 17, 2021, under the chairmanship of Speaker of the House Habib El Malki. The meeting was devoted to legislation and control.
At the start of the meeting, the Speaker of the House recalled the latest developments of the just Palestinian cause and the ground situation at Al-Quds Al-Sharif, the West Bank, and Gaza strip, and the brutal attacks of the Israeli army on civilians, buildings, and media and economic facilities, which all Moroccans condemned. The Speaker and the Board members also noted that the humanitarian aid sent by Morocco to Palestinians under the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, reflect a commitment to the Moroccan constant and deep-rooted tradition of supporting the Palestinian cause.
The Speaker and the Board members highlighted the important roles of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by HM the King, may God protect him, to protect Al-Quds and its diligent work in addressing and fighting all the attempts to alter its legal status.
Taking part in this national mobilization, the Board of the House has decided to dedicate the start of the plenary oral questions sitting, scheduled for Monday evening, to solidarity with the Palestinian people, as it will give the floor to all the House components to express the national rally around the just Palestinian cause.
As for legislation, the Board reviewed Government Bill 03.19 on the temporary occupation of the state's public property and a parliamentary bill amending and supplementing articles 306 and 311 of Law 52.05 relative to the Road Code. The Board referred both bills to the Infrastructure Committee.
In the same respect, the Board reviewed the conclusions of its subcommittee in charge of evaluating the status of the government and parliamentary bills referred to the House.
The Speaker recalled the two meetings previously held by the subcommittee, one of which with the Minister of State in Charge of Human Rights and Relations to the Parliament, which focused on:
- The status of government bills that the competent standing committees have not yet scheduled,
- The status of government bills whose examination has been put on hold,
- The status of government bills that were subject to rulings of the Constitutional Court,
- The status of all parliamentary bills, particularly those on which the government has given positive feedback.
In the said meeting, the Speaker, the members of the subcommittee, and the Minister of State presented clarifications on the abovementioned axes and decided to call upon the standing committees to start scheduling the concerned bills in agreement with the competent ministers within 15 days.
Besides, the Board reviewed the progress of examination within the standing committees and the status of the government and parliamentary bills currently under examination.
Concerning control, the Board deliberated on the weekly sittings and decided to set the agenda of the oral questions sitting of Monday, May 24, to cover the socio-economic area. Meanwhile, it will focus next week on reviewing the questions system and proposing more effective means to advance their efficiency.
