The Board of the House of Representatives held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki on Monday, April 19, 2021. The meeting was devoted to control and legislation.
At the start of the meeting, the Speaker and the Board members recalled the main event that marked the national scene last week, being the launch of the Royal project of social protection generalization. The participants noted that this project is a social revolution that will advance the situation of Moroccans, an unprecedented contribution to fighting poverty and vulnerability, and a strategic step towards accomplishing the social project that puts the citizen at the center of comprehensive and sustainable development.
On the same occasion, the Speaker of the House Habib El Malki recalled the particular attention given by the House to accompany this prominent national project. In this respect, the Speaker presented the position given to social protection by the various House components and recalled the keen efforts of the Thematic Working Group in Charge of the Healthcare System, which had the opportunity to hear the views of the different actors in the health sector and social protection and elaborated a detailed report that will be presented before the House in an upcoming sitting.
As regards control, the Board of the House has set the agenda of the oral questions sitting of Monday, April 26, to include the departments of interior, health, and tourism.
For legislation, the Board of the House has decided to convene a legislative plenary sitting on Tuesday, April 20, at noon to examine and vote on some Government bills ratifying some international agreements, and on Government Bill 12.18 amending and supplementing the Criminal Code and Law 43.05 relative to fighting money laundering.
The Board has also decided to refer the Government Bill 13.21 on the legal use of cannabis to the Internal Affairs, Communes, Housing, and Urban Policy Committee.
Concerning committees, the Board reviewed the progress of examining the Government Bills and the parliamentary bills of a total of 227 referred to them, reiterating the imperative of joining forces between the House and the Government to commit to convening the monthly sitting devoted to parliamentary bills.
