Arab Parliament Resolution In Response to European Parliament Resolution on the Kingdom of Morocco

The Arab Parliament:

- Having reviewed the resolution issued by the European Parliament on June 10, 2021, regarding the policies of the Kingdom of Morocco in migration,

- Being responsible for solidarity with Arab countries and countering any attempt to offend them or interfere in their internal and external affairs,

- Drawing on the debates and interventions during the sitting devoted to responding to this resolution, which took place at the seat of the League of Arab States on Saturday, June 26, 2021,

1-   Categorically rejects the resolution issued by the European Parliament on June 10, 2021, regarding the policies of the Kingdom of Morocco in migration;

2-   Affirms that this resolution, and the included untenable criticism and unsubstantiated allegations represent extortion and unacceptable politicization of the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in addressing the problem of illegal migration;

3-   Strongly Denounces the intervention of the European Parliament and its insistence on getting involved in a bilateral crisis between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Spain, that can be resolved through diplomatic means and direct bilateral dialogue between the two States;

4-   Hails the vigorous efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in combatting illegal migration, which stem from a strong political will and direct instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Monarch of the Kingdom of Morocco, in his quality of pioneer in solving migration issues in Africa;

5-   Stresses that the hosting by the Kingdom of Morocco of the World Conference that witnessed the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in December 2018, its hosting of the African Migration Observatory in December 2020, and the adoption by the African Union of the African Agenda for Migration, at the initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Monarch of the Kingdom of Morocco, are facts that affirm and consolidate the national, regional, and international efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in migration governance, and, at the same time, refute the false claims and allegations included in the resolution of the European Parliament;

6-   Fully rejects the unacceptable supremacist approach of the European Parliament in dealing with the questions that concern Arab States through issuing resolutions that contradict the requirements of the strategic partnership aspired between the Arab and European States;

7-   Calls upon the European Parliament to renounce these provocative practices and to adopt pragmatic and responsible positions that reinforce cooperation and coordination between the Arab and European States;

8-   Calls for the elaboration of a unified and comprehensive Arab plan of action to address such irresponsible positions of the European Parliament in a way that guarantees the respect of the sovereignty of the Arab States and ensures non-interference in their affairs;

9-   Calls upon the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, and all regional parliaments to reject and condemn this resolution that contravenes the universally acknowledged standards of parliamentary diplomacy;

10- Emphasizes the Arab character of the Moroccan cities of Sebta and Melilla and the occupied Moroccan islands and stresses the imperative of approaching this question, being a remnant of the colonial era;

11-   Reiterates its firm and consistent position of solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco and instructs its President to take the measures he deems necessary to support the Kingdom of Morocco in responding to this resolution.
