Ankara: Kick-off of the 61st Session of the PABSEC with the participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives

The proceedings of the 61st Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) kicked off on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in Ankara, Turkey, with the participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, who also presides over the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.

The two-day Session (May 4-5, 2023) will cover the horizons and challenges of the PABSEC that commemorates this year its 30th anniversary. The participants will also discuss the role of national legislative institutions in consolidating peace and stability and promoting economic growth, and other relevant themes.

On the sidelines of his participation, the Speaker of the House of Representatives will hold bilateral talks with several Speakers of the participating parliaments. The talks will tackle the means to reinforce the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary ties and exchange experiences and expertise, given that the Kingdom of Morocco is a role model at the regional level in peace, stability, continuous defense of the territorial integrity of countries, and resolution of conflicts in pacific manners. The 61st Session features the participation of the six States bordering the Black Sea: Türkiye, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, and Russia, in addition to Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Greece, Moldova, and Serbia.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation was established in 1993 in Istanbul as the parliamentary arm of the Organization for Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) that intends to promote economic, political, and cultural cooperation among the peoples of the Black Sea region.
