The Kingdom of Morocco's actions and engagements to combat the repercussions of climate change were highlighted on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in Abidjan as part of the proceedings of the 18th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC).
Speaking on behalf of the Moroccan Parliamentary Representation, Rep. Najwa Koukouss stressed that this commitment was reflected in the organization of COP 22 in 2016 in Marrakech. She also recalled the holding in 2017 in Rabat of an African parliamentary consultative meeting on "Climate and sustainable development, from agreements to action: the vision of African parliamentarians."
Rep. Koukouss also underscored the impacts of climate change on economic and social levels, living standards, and lifestyles, alongside other phenomena with worrying repercussions such as poverty, hunger, thirst, violence, terrorism, crime, armed conflicts, human trafficking, and arms and drugs trafficking.
The head of the Moroccan delegation also highlighted the role played by the Kingdom's legislative institution within the PUIC, underlining the Moroccan Parliament's commitment to the objectives of this parliamentary organization and the embodiment of its political principles.
In this respect, she called on the Union's members to pursue their efforts to develop this organization and contribute to its outreach.
Led by Rep. Najwa Koukouss (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), the Moroccan delegation to this Session comprises Rep. Mohamed Chebbak (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Khalid Chennak (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), and Cllr. Khalid Setti.
