A delegation of the Moroccan Parliament took part in the meetings of the Committees and the second plenary sitting under the first Session of the Fourth Legislative Term of the Arab Parliament, held on December 12-14, 2024, in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The delegation of the Moroccan Parliament includes Rep. Khadija Hajjoubi (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), Rep. Mohammed Lahmouch (Haraki Group – Popular Movement), and Cllr. Mohammed Bakkouri (Chairperson of the Group of the National Rally of Independents at the House of Councilors).
The proceedings of this session featured an in-depth discussion of the major projects on the Arab scene. They also featured the elaboration of several guiding documents and bills that aim to reinforce Arab cooperation and protect Arab values and interests.
In this respect, the Committee on Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs discussed, during its meeting chaired by Rep. Khadija Hajjoubi, the Vice-Chairperson, the developments of the preparation of a conference on the protection of social values in the Arab world, ahead of the elaboration of a guide document that includes efficient Arab mechanisms whose achievement would enable the protection of Arab social values. Besides, the members of the Committee elaborated a plan to protect Arab antiquities following the information included in the Database of Destroyed, Looted, or Tarnished Arab Antiquities. The meeting also discussed the Arab guide document to enhance job and volunteering opportunities for older people, which the Committee elaborated to exploit their abilities to serve and develop society.
For its part, the Committee on Foreign, Political, and National Security Affairs debated, during its meeting that featured the participation of Rep. Mohammed Lahmouch, the political and security developments in the Arab world, in addition to the current challenges in the Arab region. Besides, the Committee adopted an action plan to implement the resolutions issued by the Arab and Islamic Summits.
The Committee on Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs discussed the general framework and axes of the 2024 report on human rights in the Arab world. It also discussed implementing an Arab vision to protect religious convictions and symbols and prohibit offense against them. The meeting also featured the presentation of an Arab guide bill to combat irregular migration in the Arab world.
In the economic area, the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, chaired by Rep. Mohammed Bakkouri, agreed on elaborating an Arab strategy to support the blue economy in Arab countries and the creation of a subcommittee to prepare the convention of the second edition of the Arab Forum to Reinforce Economic Integration in Arab countries. The meeting also featured the presentation of a proposal to strengthen coordination and cooperation ties with several economic organizations and parties.
The Arab Parliament concluded the proceedings of the First Session of the Fourth Legislative Term by holding its second plenary sitting that featured the presentation of a draft resolution on the situation in Palestine, drafted by the Committee on Palestine. The draft resolution reaffirms the Arab Parliament’s action within regional and international parliamentary unions and UN Organizations to support the Palestinian people.
