Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks, Thursday, January 30th at the House’s headquarters, with Argentina’s Ambassador to Morocco Raul Ignacio Guastavino.
On this occasion, the House’s Speaker shed light on the strong ties linking Morocco and Argentina, which have developed significantly since the visit performed by HM King Mohammed VI to Latin America in 2004. In this respect, he said, “Argentina is a friendly country to Morocco, and our diplomatic relations are long-standing as they have existed for 60 years.”
Mr. El Malki noted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating the closeness between the two countries “in an increasingly complex world.” In the same respect, he invited Speaker of Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies to perform a working visit to Morocco, which would be an occasion to discuss means of consolidating cooperation between both parliaments and promoting relations between the two countries towards their mutual benefit.
For his part, Argentina’s Ambassador to Morocco noted that the Royal visit to Latin America in 2004 opened new perspectives for cooperation with the region’s countries. He also highlighted that Morocco and Argentina share similar views on all regional and international issues, praising the constant consultation and coordination between the two countries in international events, and matters of common interest. Mr. Ignacio Guastavino also noted that Argentina considers Morocco a gate to strengthening economic ties with African countries, expressing his country’s will to establish a trilateral cooperation gathering Argentina, Morocco, and African countries.
Additionally, the Ambassador reviewed the aspects of cooperation between the two countries, especially in agriculture, given the launch of several joint projects. He also called for consolidating air services linking Argentina and Morocco to develop exchanges in tourism, trade, and the academic field.
