Rep. Mohamed Chebbak (Group of the National Rally of Independents) took part, as representative of the Moroccan Parliamentary Representation and member of the Arab Group, in the 49th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held in Abidjan, the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, on July 17-18, 2023.
The meeting covered the adoption of the order of business of the 18th Conference of the Union, to be held in Abidjan on February 20, 2024, at the initiative of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire. Besides, the meeting ratified the orders of business of the four Standing Specialized Committees: The Committee on Political and Foreign Relations; the Committee on Economic Affairs and Environment; the Committee on Human Rights, Women, and Family Affairs; and the Committee on Cultural and Legal Affairs, and Dialogue of Civilizations and Religions. The meeting also approved the orders of business of the sub-committees, including the Committee on Palestine and the Committee on Muslim Minorities and Communities.
The proceedings of the meeting culminated in the adoption of the Abidjan Declaration. The latter stresses the centrality of the Palestinian Cause and the importance of unifying views among the Assemblies of Muslim States to address the increasing hatred against Islam and Muslims. Moreover, the Declaration condemns the resurgence of attacks against the Holy Quran, considering them vicious acts that endanger security, stability, and peace within societies and at the global level.
It should be noted that the Executive Committee of the PUIC comprises 15 members. The Kingdom of Morocco was elected representative of the Arab Group within the Committee during the 17th Conference in January 2023 alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Republic of Lebanon.
