Chairperson of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, and Environment Committee Holds Talks with Chairperson of the Committee on Climate Action and Energy at the Bundestag

The Chairperson of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, and Environment Committee at the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohammed Mellal, held talks on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, with a German delegation led by Mr. Klaus Ernst, the Chairperson of the Committee on Climate Action and Energy at the Bundestag, currently on a visit to our country.

The meeting, attended by the German Ambassador to Rabat, H.E. Robert Dölger, kicked off by praising the good ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federal Republic of Germany and the new dynamic characterizing said ties at various levels.

In his intervention on occasion, Rep. Mohammed Mellal gave a presentation on the Committee, its missions, its competencies, and the record of its action during the last session with regard to climate and renewable energies. In the same regard, he added that in addition to monitoring several Government Departments, the Committee also monitors several institutions that operate in the energy sector in our country and follows the repercussions of climate change.

On the same occasion, the Chairperson of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, and Environment Committee shed light on the approved laws in the area of renewable energies and the national strategies adopted to address the repercussions of climate change, manage waste, evaluate environmental conditions, create the National Authority for Electricity Regulation, and other themese falling under the competence of the Committee.

During the same meeting, the two parties exchanged views on the prospects of energy cooperation between the two countries. In this respect, the Chairperson of the Comitttee on Climate Action and Energy at the Bundestag expressed his country's desire to reinforce cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco in renewable energies given the great need of Germany in terms of solar and wind energy. He also noted that he visited, alongside his entourage, the "Noor" project in Ouarzazate, and witnessed the magnitude of the implemented projects.

Moreover, the two parties underscored the importance of joining efforts to address climate changes and the energy crises the World is undergoing, advancing towards decreasing the use of fossil energies, and exploring the investment in new energies such as green hydrogen.

It should be noted that the German delegation is expected to meet with several Government officials and actors in the energy sector.
