Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with the Chairperson of the External Relations Committee at the Chilean Senate and His Entourage

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, held talks on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Seat of the House, with the Chairperson of the External Relations Committee at the Chilean Senate, Sen. Francisco Javier Chahuán, currently on a working visit to our country at the head of an important delegation.

On occasion, the Chairperson of the External Relations Committee at the Chilean Senate expressed Chile's support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and his admiration of the development and evolution in the southern regions of Morocco. He also reiterated his country's position considering the autonomy proposal made by the Kingdom the most suitable solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

In the same respect, Sen. Francisco Javier Chahuán highlighted the importance of consolidating cooperation between Morocco and Chile in politics, economy, trade, agriculture, environment, and migration, noting their strategic position as Morocco is a gate to Africa while Chile is a bridge towards Latin America.

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives showed gratitude for the Chilean position in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. He also noted that the two countries face the same challenges related to climate change, water management, renewable energies, and artificial intelligence, and are both attached to peace, stability, and economic and social development.

Moreover, the Speaker shed light on the major projects and reforms undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, noting particularly the democratic and human rights evolution and multidimensional and comprehensive development in our country, which have enabled it to become a pole of stability and growth.

The two parties also underscored the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels and giving new impetus to relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries in a way that serves their mutual interests.

The delegation of the Chilean Senate is composed of Sen. Yasna Campillay Provoste, the Chair of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, Sen. José Manuel Rojo Edwards, Sen. María Loreto Carvajal Ambiado, Sen. Iván Moreira Barros, and Sen. Juan Luis Castro González.

The meeting was attended from the Moroccan side by Rep. Aicha El Gourgi, the Chair of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Cllr. Ahmed Lakhrif.
