Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, held talks on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, with the Speaker of the French National Assembly, Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet, currently leading a prominent parliamentary delegation on an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco upon the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
During their encounter, the two parties tackled the means for giving new impetus to the cooperation ties between the Moroccan House of Representatives and the French National Assembly. In the same respect, they affirmed the importance of reinforcing dialogue, coordination, and exchanging experiences and expertise between the two legislative institutions. The two parties also discussed the questions of mutual parliamentary concern and the means to face the current challenges, particularly climate change, security, artificial intelligence, migration, and other issues.
On this occasion, the Speaker of the French National Assembly noted that her ongoing visit to the Kingdom of Morocco aims to grant a parliamentary dimension to the exceptional partnership launched during the important visit performed by the President of the French Republic, H.E. Emmanuel Macron, to the Kingdom of Morocco last October, and his talks with His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shed light on the major projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him, particularly the Atlantic Initiative launched by His Majesty to enable African countries to access the Atlantic Ocean. He also underscored the development of the democratic process in the Kingdom and highlighted the institutional reforms implemented and the prerogatives of the House of Representatives in the 2011 Constitution.
Following their talks, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, and the Speaker of the French National Assembly, Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet, signed a protocol of parliamentary cooperation between the two institutions. The protocol aims to reinforce the friendship and cooperation links between the two parliamentary institutions and consolidate dialogue and coordination between them through exchanging visits, organizing joint activities between their Committees and other parliamentary bodies, exchanging views regularly between the two parliamentary friendship groups, resuming the proceedings of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Forum, and sharing experiences and expertise at the level of parliamentary administration.
The signature of this protocol reflects the common desire to strengthen bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations, as well as the commitment to the principles and values of the Rule of Law and democracy, as well as the mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.
The Speaker of the French National Assembly is accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, MP Naima Moutchou, the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Bruno Fuchs, and the Secretary-General of the Assembly, Mr. Damien Chamussy.
The meeting featured the presence of the Ambassador of the French Republic to Rabat, H.E. Christophe Lecourtier. The Moroccan side featured the attendance of the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, Migration, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee, Rep. Salma Benaziz, and the Chairperson of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Friendship Group, Rep. Omar Anane.
