The Session takes place under the theme of the year 2024 of the African Union: “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa," a theme that the African Union chose in order to push its various bodies to review educational systems in Africa and find practical solutions to advance them, out of the conviction that education is not only a pressing need for improving the social and economic reality, but also a strategic investment in the future of the continent and the prosperity of its peoples.

The Session features several presentations and debates that cover the situation of integrity and the financing of the African Union in the presence of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the status of manufacturing in Africa, and the prospects of sustainable economic growth and development in the continent. The meetings will also discuss the status of governance, peace, security, and the management of disasters in the continent, the convention of the Women Forum, and the Pan-African Parliament’s 2024-2028 Strategic Plan. The Session will also feature the election of the first Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament amongst the members of the Regional Group of North Africa.

Besides, the Session will feature the meetings of the Standing Committees and the regional and thematic groups, where they will discuss the conclusions of the activities of said bodies and set the plan for their future ones. The Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament will also hold its meeting to set its action plan for 2025.

It should be noted that the Pan-African Parliament gathers the Parliaments of the member States of the African Union. The Parliament was founded under Article 5 of the AU’s Constitutive Act and formally initiated its proceedings in 2004. The jurisdiction of the Parliament aims to ensure the full participation of African peoples in the development and economic integrity of the continent. It currently enjoys a consultative status within the African Union and controls its budget.
