Dublin: Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation Takes Part in the Proceedings of the Autumn Meeting of the OSCE-PA

Members of the National Parliamentary Representation of the House of Representatives are taking part in the 22nd Autumn Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE-PA), held in Dublin, Ireland, from October 2 to 4, 2024.

The National Parliamentary Representation of the House of Representatives, which enjoys the status of partner for cooperation within this organization, is composed of Rep. Marouane Chbaatou (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Khalid Hatimi (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), and Rep. Ahmed El-Aaleme (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism).

The opening sitting of the Session was characterized by high-level speeches from the host officials, as well as a parliamentary conference under the theme: “Fifty Years After Helsinki: The Role of Parliaments in Reinforcing the OSCE’s Comprehensive Model of Peace and Security.”

The conference was a valuable opportunity for parliamentarians, experts, diplomatic representatives, senior researchers, and academics to discuss several current topics, including peaceful means of conflict management, international conflict resolution mechanisms, including mediation and negotiation techniques, the role of parliaments in addressing the climate change crisis, and the reinforcement of migration management in the OSCE region.

During this session, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly also held the Mediterranean Forum, which was dedicated to the current situation in the Middle East.

This forum was marked by the address delivered by Rep. Marouane Chbaatou on behalf of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation, in which he expressed the Kingdom of Morocco's concern over the ongoing escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border and its potential impacts on the security and stability of the entire region.

He also urged for a comprehensive ceasefire and an end to the ongoing war in Gaza to pave the way for diplomatic and political action to spare the region further instability and conflicts. In the same context, he recalled Morocco's efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist and glorify him, in favor of the Palestinian cause, as well as Morocco's pioneering policy on migration and asylum.

During the Autumn Session, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation was commended for its participation. The Session was also an opportunity for the Moroccan parliamentary delegation to hold fruitful meetings with various national delegations, in addition to a meeting with Mr. Pascal Allizard, Special Representative on Mediterranean Affairs within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
