During his meeting with the two members of the Representation of the House of Representatives to the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) on the sidelines of their participation in the proceedings of the September Session, held on September 25-26, 2024, in Guatemala, the new President of the Central American Parliament, Hon. Ramón Emilio Gori, from the Dominican Republic, underscored the strong bonds linking the Central American Parliament to the Moroccan Parliament, which he described as profound relations spanning over a decade.
He also praised the significant development achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco in recent years in several fields and its leadership at the continental and international levels in several areas, expressing his strong desire that the countries of Central America benefit from the Moroccan experience in renewable and clean energies, in addition to the Moroccan expertise in managing migration.
For her part, the representative of the Moroccan Representation, Rep. Hayat Laaraych, lauded the distinguished position the Kingdom of Morocco enjoys amongst the components of the Central American Parliament, which falls under the scope of the strategy of the Kingdom to reinforce South-South cooperation. In the same respect, she noted the excellent relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco and most countries of Central America, lauding particularly the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Dominican Republic and the support of the latter to the national cause through the recent declaration by its Minister of Foreign Affairs to open a consulate in Dakhla.
The participation of the two representatives, Rep. Abdelaali Barouki (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism) and Rep. Hayat Laaraych (Socialist Group – Ittihadi Opposition), in the sessions of the Central American Parliament falls within the scope of the strategic choice of the Kingdom of Morocco to strengthen South-South cooperation under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah assist him.
This session was marked by the swearing-in of Rep. Abdelaali Barouki before the Central American Parliament as an observer member representing the National Representation to this parliamentary organization. During his address, he thanked the components of the Central American Parliament, highlighting the importance of this regional organization in promoting the principles of democracy, human rights, and integration among the countries of the region. He also expressed the readiness of the Moroccan Parliament to continue cooperation and strengthen the partnership with the Central American Parliament, especially after obtaining the status of advanced partner.
On the other hand, the first part of the plenary sitting featured intense debates on the proposal to admit the Russian Parliament as an observer member of the Central American Parliament, which ended with an absolute majority vote on the admission of the Russian Parliament. The plenary sitting will continue with the adoption of the reports of the standing committees and the approval of a number of draft resolutions related to healthy nutrition, policies related to women during pregnancy, and the promotion of economic autonomy for women in Central America.
