52nd Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States

The House of Representatives hosts on September 10-11, 2024, in Rabat, the proceedings of the 52nd Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).

The meeting will feature the election of the Bureau, the adoption of the order of business and work program, the adoption of the report of the Secretary-General of the Union, the establishment of the draft order of business of the Standing Specialized Committees and other bodies, in addition to the adoption of the draft order of business of the 26th Session of the General Committee of the Union and the 19th Session of the PUIC Conference. The meeting will also culminate in the adoption of the Rabat Declaration. 

The Standing Specialized Committees are the Committee on Political Affairs and Foreign Relations, the Committee on Economic Affairs and the Environment, the Committee on Human Rights, Women, and Family Affairs, and the Committee on Cultural and Legal Affairs and Dialogue of Civilizations and Religions. The other bodies include the Palestine Committee, the Conference Muslim Women Parliamentarians, and the Association of the PUIC Secretaries General. 

It should be noted that the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States gathers 54 member Parliaments. Created in 1999, the Union aims to introduce and promote the noble Islamic teachings, provide a framework to achieve cooperation and coordination between the assemblies of the OIC member States, reinforce gatherings and dialogue between its members, exchange parliamentary expertise, and debate the economic, cultural, social, and cultural questions concerning the member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and make the adequate recommendations and decisions thereon. 

The Executive Committee is one of the Union’s bodies. It meets at least once a year with the presence of at least ten of its 15 members. The Committee examines the requests for accession to the Union, issues opinions on the draft order of business of the General Committee and the Conference, and monitors the work and activities of the General Secretariat, in addition to other missions entrusted to it by the General Committee and the Conference.
