Montreal: National Parliamentary Representation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie Participates in Its 49th Session

A Moroccan parliamentary delegation led by Rep. Hassan Benomar (Group of the National Rally of Independents) is taking part in the 49th Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, taking place on July 5-10, 2024, in Montreal, Canada.

The delegation includes the members of the Moroccan Parliamentary Representation to the APF: Rep. Hussein Ouaallal (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Latifa Lablih (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), Rep. Hachim Amine Chafik (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), Cllr. Reda Lahmini (Group of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises), and Cllr. Amina Hamdani (Group of the Moroccan Labor Union).

The Session discusses a theme that falls at the heart of modern questions: Artificial intelligence and the opportunities and dangers of its integration into parliamentary action. The discussion will be an opportunity to hear experts. It will also enable the participants to exchange views and best practices in order to achieve a tangible work plan that ameliorates the usage of artificial intelligence in the parliamentary field.

The Session will also feature the meetings of the Standing Committees of the APF. In this respect, the members of the National Parliamentary Representation will participate in the proceedings of the Political Committee, the Economic Affairs Committee, the Education, Culture, and Communication Committee, as well as the proceedings of the Network of Women Parliamentarians. The meetings will examine and discuss several questions like political mediation, the importance of multilateral relations in establishing peace, the preservation and protection of biodiversity, international commercial negotiations under the World Trade Organization, the protection of women and girls in zones of armed conflicts, and the integration of children with special needs into schools.

In parallel to the Session, the Francophone Youth Parliament will hold its Tenth Session. The convention is a prominent event for French-speaking youth as it will gather 79 young people between the ages of 18 and 25 from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, enabling them to propose decisions on matters that reflect their concerns and aspirations.

It should be noted that the 49th Session of the APF is taking place upon the invitation of the Canadian Parliament and under the patronage of the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Hon. Greg Fergus, and the Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Hon. Raymonde Gagné. This major event gathers around 300 participants from different Francophone countries.
