The Moroccan Parliamentary Representation took part in the proceedings of the 31st Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, held in Bucharest, Romania, at the seat of the Romanian Parliament from June 29 to July 3, 2024.
The Moroccan parliamentary delegation to the Session included Rep. Marouane Chbaatou (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Khalid Hatimi (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), and Cllr. Jalila Morsli (Group of the National Rally of Independents).
The Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly covered the theme: "The Role of the OSCE in the Current Security Architecture: A Parliamentary Perspective." The Session featured a heavy presence of member parliamentary delegations of the Assembly, experts, diplomatic representatives, and representatives of the Romanian Government and Parliament and of other regional and international parliamentary organizations.
During the meetings of the three General Committees of the Assembly (the Political Affairs and Security Committee; the Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment Committee; and the Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions Committee), the participants discussed several regional and international questions of global concern, such as the security situation in the Middle East, the repercussions of the Russo-Ukrainian War on the world and European order, water and the climate crisis, migration, human trafficking, and misinformation.
As per the tradition in the Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Session adopted the reports of the three General Committees as well as those of the Ad Hoc Committees on Countering terrorism and Migration. The Session also featured the vote on the recommendations presented by said committees.
The closing sitting of the 31st Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly witnessed the adoption of the Bucharest Declaration, which includes several recommendations to national Governments, Parliaments, and civil society. The sitting also featured the re-election of the President of the Assembly, some of the Chairpersons and rapporteurs of the Committees, and the Bureau of the Assembly.
As a Mediterranean partner for cooperation within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation held a meeting with the Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee on Migration, Ms. Daniela de Ridder, where the delegation welcomed the awaited visit of the Committee to Morocco to explore the leading and distinguished experience of the Kingdom of Morocco in managing migration on the basis of a humanitarian approach par excellence.
