Doha: Delegation of the House of Representatives Takes Part in the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians

A delegation of the House of Representatives is taking part in the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians on “The Role of Women Parliamentarians in the Development, Implementation, and Oversight of Counter-Terrorism and Prevention of Violent Extremism Legislation, Policies, and Strategies" in Doha, Qatar, on June 26-27, 2024. 

The delegation includes: 

  • Rep. Nadia Touhami, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; and

  • Rep. Nadia Bouzandoufa, Clerk of the House. 

The agenda of the Conference includes six sessions that address the following issues: 

  1. An overview of countering terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism and their gendered aspects; 

  2. The Role of parliamentarians in countering terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism; 

  3. Gender mainstreaming in countering terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism; 

  4. The full, equal, and meaningful participation and leadership of women in countering terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism; 

  5. Challenges, gaps, and necessary measures; 

  6. Coordination and partnership.

Held in cooperation between the Qatari Shura Council and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism in Doha, the Conference will culminate in prominent conclusions and recommendations on the roles that women parliamentarians can play in countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism. 

The Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians aims to reinforce the role of women parliamentarians in countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism. In this respect, the Conference will discuss the challenges facing women in this field, the best practices to elaborate and implement effective policies, and the role of parliaments in reinforcing the culture of tolerance and respect. 

The delegation of the House of Representatives is expected to hold bilateral talks with the delegations participating in this Conference to strengthen cooperation, bring views together, and give new impetus to the relations linking the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco to the legislative institutions of these delegations.
