A Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part in the 81st Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union, organized by the Union in cooperation with the Parliament of Côte d’Ivoire on June 4-5, 2024, in Abidjan.
The delegation includes Rep. Madiha Khayir and Rep. Abdelilah Amehdi from the Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism.
The inauguration of the Session featured an opening address given by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, MP Wehi Mêla Gaston, on behalf of the President of the African Parliamentary Union’s Executive Committee and Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Adama Bictogo. The address stressed that this meeting takes place amidst a peculiar context, adding that Africa necessitates peace and stability to pursue its steadfast journey toward development.
The order of business of the Session covered several essential items including notifying the Committee of the implementation of the decisions and recommendations issued by the 45th Conference of the Union and the examination of the management budget for 2023. The Committee also worked on elaborating and drafting the business orders of the 46th Conference of the Union and the 82nd Session of the Executive Committee. The meeting also determined the date and place for the convention of the latter.
The Moroccan parliamentary delegation engaged in a series of intensified bilateral talks with the delegations of the friendly countries participating in this session. The talks featured a discussion of the means to consolidate cooperation and solidify the friendship bonds between the legislative institutions of these countries.
The African Parliamentary Union targets strengthening the action of African Parliaments and aims to become a Forum for African national parliaments and a platform for parliamentary dialogue and cooperation to serve peace, democracy, governance, and sustainable development.
