The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Nadia Touhami, received on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party and Chairman of the Commission for Propaganda and Education, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, currently leading a high-level delegation on a working visit to the Kingdom.
At the onset of the meeting, attended by the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Rabat, H.E. Le Kim Quy, Rep. Nadia Touhami extended to the Vietnamese delegation the esteem of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, expressing her thanks and gratitude to the delegation for visiting the Kingdom.
On this occasion, Rep. Nadia Touhami praised the distinguished ties and strong bonds linking Morocco and Vietnam, reflected through the common struggle of both countries to emancipate from occupation. In the same regard, she noted that the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2021 testifies to the depth of their relations, which are built on mutual respect and support within international and regional fora, as well as on multidimensional cooperation in politics, economy, and culture.
Rep. Nadia Touhami also noted that Morocco relies on the strategic partnership between the two countries to establish and reinforce its relations with the countries of Southeast Asia, while Morocco is a gate for Vietnam towards Africa.
In the same regard, Rep. Nadia Touhami underscored that the commercial exchange between the two countries has witnessed constant evolution in recent years, as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is the second most important commercial partner to Morocco within the ASEAN. She also expressed the desire to reinforce economic cooperation and increase the volume of commercial exchanges, mainly as reflected by the growing number of agreements concluded in several areas, such as trade, investment, energy, mining, banks, education, training, and air services.
Rep. Nadia Touhami added that there are great opportunities for shared investment between the two countries, and they can both benefit from each other in the future. She also noted the possibility of launching investment projects in African countries, particularly in agriculture.
On another note, Rep. Nadia Touhami noted that parliamentary cooperation has witnessed a significant evolution in recent years through the exchange of high-level visits between the Moroccan House of Representatives and the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, culminating in the conclusion of a cooperation agreement between them in 2017 and the accession of the House of Representatives to the AIPA in 2020 as an observer member. She also noted that Vietnam contributed actively to this accession.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives also reiterated our country's attachment to the principles of international law, including defending peace and coexistence, resolving conflicts in peaceful manners under UN resolutions, not interfering in the internal affairs of States, and respecting their territorial integrity and sovereignty.
For his part, the Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party’s Central Committee, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, expressed his happiness at visiting Morocco. In this regard, he extended the esteem of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Vietnam and those of the Government and officials of the country. He added that this visit aims to reinforce and anchor the friendship and solidarity bonds linking Vietnam and Morocco.
The Secretary of the Central Committee noted his pride in the reforms conducted by the Kingdom of Morocco in several areas, adding that Vietnam and Morocco share numerous common aspects and have several fields where they can solidify their bilateral cooperation.
The Secretary also stressed the importance of the role of the two legislative institutions of Vietnam and Morocco in reinforcing cooperation between the two countries. In this vein, he lauded the positions expressed by Moroccan parliamentarians in regional and international fora, which serve the two countries' common interests.
During the meeting, the Vietnamese official reiterated his country's attachment to peace and territorial integrity of all states. In this regard, he noted that Vietnam participated alongside Morocco in the peacekeeping forces in several parts of the world.
He also reiterated his thanks to Morocco for the support of the Moroccan soldiers who fought alongside Vietnamese soldiers to attain their country's independence.
