The members of the Moroccan National Parliamentary Representation, led by Rep. Mohamed Sabbari, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, are taking part in the proceedings of the 34th Session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and the 36th Conference of the Union, held in Algiers on May 25-27, 2024, with the participation of the Speakers of Parliaments, heads of Arab parliamentary delegations, and representatives of Arab, regional, and international organizations.
The delegation of the Parliamentary Representation includes Rep. Fatima Khair and Rep. Hafid Oauchak (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Abderrazak Ahlouch (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), Rep. Faiçal Zerhouni (Constitutional, Democratic, and Social Group), Cllr. Cheikh Ahmadou Idebda (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), and Cllr. Abdellatif Moustakim (Chairperson – Group of the General Union of Moroccan Workers).
According to the order of business of the Conference and the parallel proceedings, Rep. Mohamed Sabbari will take part in the consultative meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments. He will also give an address on behalf of the National Parliamentary Representation during the plenary sitting of the Conference.
The members of the Representation are expected to participate in the 34th Session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and the meetings of the standing committees: the Committee on Palestine, the Political Affairs and Parliamentary Relations Committee, and the Social, Women, Children, and Youth Affairs Committee.
In addition to discussing the reports of the previous sessions and the activities of the General Secretariat since the 35th Conference of the Union, the Session will focus on the timely challenges the Arab region faces, particularly the situation in Gaza.
The 36th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union will also feature the election of a new Secretary-General, the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of its establishment, tribute to the previous President and Secretary-General, the award of the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Prize, and the handover of the presidency to the President of the new Session.
Established in June 1974, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union is an Arab parliamentary organization that gathers representations of Arab Parliaments. The Union aims to consolidate Arab solidarity and cooperation, unify Arab parliamentary positions within international fora, and work on harmonizing legislations in Arab countries.
