In 3rd NAM-PN Conference, Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation Calls for Consolidating Peace and Understanding Between Peoples, and Refutes Malicious Claims by the Foes of the Kingdom’s Territorial Integrity

As part of its ongoing participation in the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, currently taking place in Geneva, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation called, in its intervention during the Assembly's general debate on the theme "Parliamentary diplomacy: Building bridges for peace and understanding," for reinforcing peace and understanding between peoples in the face of the acute conflicts affecting the world. In this respect, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the international situation and the challenges facing the world, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as well as tensions in Africa and the Middle East. In this context, the Moroccan delegation stressed the imperative of respecting the sovereignty of States and consolidating regional stability through political dialogue and international cooperation.

The delegation also highlighted the Kingdom of Morocco's role in strengthening interfaith dialogue and combatting climate change through its participation in international initiatives. In the same vein, the delegation affirmed the need to consolidate dialogue and cooperation between States to build a common future of peace and understanding.

During its participation in the 3rd Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, held on the sidelines of the 148th IPU Assembly on the theme of "Revitalizing parliamentary action in combatting climate change," the Moroccan parliamentary delegation stressed the Kingdom of Morocco's constant commitment to international action to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development. In this context, the delegation mentioned the Kingdom's continuous efforts since 1992, notably the signing of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the adoption of several environmental and energy measures and policies.

In this context, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation highlighted the efforts made by the Moroccan Parliament in drafting environmental legislation and strengthening parliamentary control over the Government’s climate policies. The delegation also affirmed the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of expertise in tackling the challenges of climate change effectively to create a more sustainable and prosperous world for future generations.

It should be noted that during these two gatherings and in response to the preposterous claims made by the Algerian delegation concerning the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation expressed its strong dissatisfaction at the inclusion by the Algerian representative, during his two interventions on the theme of the IPU Assembly and the 3rd Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, of a question submitted to the United Nations Security Council. The question concerns the recovery by the Kingdom of Morocco of its southern territories in accordance with international law, without recalling the historical facts and the Kingdom's recovery of its national independence, facts of which the Algerian representative is well aware.

The delegation recalled that the Algerian representative's remarks were part of the usual approach of supporting separatism and disrupting the stability of States, thus creating a fertile ground for the spread of terrorism and organized crime. This approach has become isolated and devoid of prospects at both regional and international levels.

The Moroccan parliamentary delegation also noted with great puzzlement the systematic and intentional politicization of the IPU dialogues on the part of the Algerian representative by including a subject that has no connection with the agenda. In this respect, the Moroccan delegation recalled Algeria's severe violations of international humanitarian law and the fundamental principles of international law, as well as the United Nations Charter, given that Algeria grants powers to an armed separatist group on its territory, which has a direct impact on the stability of the entire region.

The Moroccan delegation also stressed that the international community welcomes the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which has become the primary reference in the relevant Security Council resolutions. In this respect, it pointed out that the Kingdom's southern provinces are undergoing exceptional economic, social, and cultural development, as witnessed by several international delegations that visit these regions, including numerous parliamentary delegations. In addition, the people of the southern provinces are exercising their democratic rights by actively participating in the management of public affairs through the various elected local, regional, and national institutions.
