The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean is a space for Mediterranean dialogue and cooperation that convenes in a plenary session at least once a year. The Assembly involves elected representatives of the EU and its Southern Mediterranean partner countries. The members of the Assembly amount to 280, divided equally between the countries of the two Mediterranean shores. Besides, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Libya, the European Committee of the Regions, and the European Economic and Social Committee participate as permanent observers in the works of the Assembly.
The Bureau of the Assembly coordinates its works and represents it. The Bureau includes four members elected for a four-year term, of which two represent the countries of the Southern shore of the Mediterranean while the other two represent the countries of the Northern one. In the meantime, the Expanded Bureau includes the members of the Bureau in addition to the Chairs of the Standing Committees and the Chair of the Working Group.
