Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Hon. Kim Jin-pyo, currently on a work visit to the Kingdom of Morocco at the lead of a high-level parliamentary delegation upon a formal invitation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The talks of the Speaker of the House with his Korean counterpart covered the means to reinforcing bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation, as well as coordination in various areas and questions of mutual interest.
At the outset of the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the visit of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom, which coincides with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Moroccan Parliament. In the same regard, he praised the excellent ties linking the two countries, having witnessed continuous growth since the establishment of diplomatic links in 1962.
On this occasion, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami shed light on the major projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him, as well as the initiatives taken by His Majesty to lead the Kingdom towards becoming a pioneering country at the regional and international levels.
Besides, the Speaker of the House of Representatives called for reinforcing parliamentary cooperation between the two legislative institutions, working on the consolidation of the Morocco-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, exchanging visits, and coordinating within international parliamentary fora in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.
The Speaker of the House also praised the positive take of the Republic of Korea regarding the Moroccan Sahara. In this regard, he recalled the message addressed by the former President of the Republic of Korea, Park Chung-hee to the late His Majesty King Hassan II on March 12, 1976, to congratulate him on the outstanding victory of the Kingdom and the recovery of its southern provinces following the Green March.
The Speaker of the Korean National Assembly also noted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in solidifying cooperation between the two countries in all areas, adding that he aspires for the conclusion of a cooperation agreement between the two countries in economy and trade. On the same occasion, the Korean official welcomed the participation of the Kingdom of Morocco in the proceedings of the Korea-Africa Summit, to be held in Seoul next June.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the Morocco-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, Rep. Mohamed Hichami, and the Korean Ambassador to Rabat, H.E. Keeyong Chung.
