The House of Representatives hosted a meeting on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, to hear the presentation by the President of the Ad-hoc Committee on the New Development Model Chakib Benmoussa of the general report of the Committee, as part of the series of meetings held by the latter with the different actors under the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The meeting was chaired by Speakers of the House of Representatives and the House of Councilors, Habib El Malki and Hakim Benchemach, and witnessed the participation of the members of the Boards of both Houses, the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and standing committees, and the members of the Ad-hoc Committee on the New Development Model.
In his statement on this occasion, Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki reiterated the constant willingness of the House to engage in implementing the new development model fostered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. In this respect, he noted that the House "considers the new development model a new roadmap for a secure and safe transition towards future Morocco and commends the conclusions and recommendations of the Committee."
Besides, Mr. El Malki highlighted that “the presentation of the conclusions of the general report within the Parliament has strong symbolic connotations as the Parliament has been and will always be a space that hosts public debates and exchange thoughts and opinions, and reflects the people’s will and participatory representative democracy in all its aspects and stretches.”
The Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed pride and consideration for the speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI at opening the legislative year 2017-2018 where “His Majesty the King affirmed here at the Parliament that Morocco has made enormous strides that the world attests to, and needs a new national development model as the previous one does no longer meet the pressing and growing needs of citizens, and to put an end to social and regional gaps and achieve social justice. Following that, His Majesty the King called upon the Government, the Parliament, and the different concerned institutions and bodies to review the previous development model and work towards elaborating an inclusive vision of this model and give it new impetus. His Majesty the King created a national committee to elaborate a new development model under the chairmanship of Chakib Benmoussa.”
Mr. El Malki noted that the meeting comes after His Majesty King Mohammed VI presided on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the Royal Palace in Fes, a ceremony to present the general report elaborated by the Committee. He added, "This is an occasion to laud the cooperative and participatory approach adopted by the Committee and the content of the report that analyzed the economic and social situation and presented a proactive futuristic vision built on scientific bases and indices of the different public policies and programs."
The Speaker of the House concluded his statement by commending, on behalf of all the Parliament components, the conclusions and recommendations of the report, which "were the center of attention of many international organizations." He also lauded the spirit of engagement and the virtue of listening to the various political, unionist, civil society, and professional actors, as well as different categories of citizens ahead of elaborating this strategic document.
