Speaker of House of Representatives Receives Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad

Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki received on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the House Headquarters, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad of the Republic of Senegal Aïssata Tall Sall, currently on a working visit to our country during which she presided the opening of a consulate of the Republic of Senegal in Dakhla.

On this occasion, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed that the opening by Senegal of a consulate in Dakhla in the southern provinces of the Kingdom is the culmination of the strategic and distinguished relations that link the leaders and peoples of the two countries. It is also a reflection of the convergence of views on various regional and international issues. In this respect, he said, "Senegal is a model of stability and democracy and occupies a privileged position in the hearts of Moroccans who value and appreciate the fraternity, friendship, and permanent support of Senegal for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom."

Mr. El Malki noted that the two countries face common challenges such as the Covid-19, sustainable development, climate change, migration issues, water scarcity, and other issues. He also highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in these areas, calling for reinforcing joint African action on these issues.

At the parliamentary level, the Speaker of the House of Representatives reiterated the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating the various aspects of cooperation between the two countries. Besides, he expressed the firm will to strengthen the relations between the two legislative institutions and to give further dynamism to the action of the Morocco-Senegal parliamentary friendship group to open up new horizons to face the common challenges.

For her part, the Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad stressed that the opening by her country of a consulate in Dakhla reflects the strength of the long-standing and multidimensional friendship ties linking the two countries, lauding the support of the Kingdom of Morocco to Senegal in fighting Covid-19. She also noted that the two countries had concluded several cooperation agreements in various fields.

The Minister also called for further solidarity with African countries amidst these circumstances, more support for sustainable development in the South countries, and additional concerted efforts to overcome the great challenges in the continent, particularly those relating to water management and combating desertification. She stated that Senegal will host the "World Water Forum" next year and is currently implementing the "Great Green Wall" project to combat desertification in the Sahel region, stressing the importance of benefiting from the Moroccan experience and expertise in these areas.
