Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks, Wednesday, February 19th at the House’s headquarters, with Ambassador of the Netherlands to Morocco Désirée Bonis.
On this occasion, the House’s Speaker stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in bringing the two countries closer, and in reviewing the changes happening in them. He also noted that Morocco had made significant strides in building a modern democratic state that respects human rights. In this respect, Mr. El Malki reviewed the development happening in Morocco in institutions, law, infrastructure, services, etc. He also said that “Morocco has changed over the years, and HM King Mohammed VI is leading all-round development projects in all regions of the Kingdom.”
Besides, Mr. El Malki highlighted the importance of intensifying the exchange of visits between Moroccan and Dutch parliamentarians. In the same respect, he invited the Speaker of the Dutch House of Representatives to perform a working visit to Morocco to discuss means of advancing bilateral relations towards more cooperation and solidarity for the benefit of both countries.
For her part, Netherlands Ambassador to Morocco affirmed that her country is keen to solidify its relations with Morocco, noting the presence of around 500,000 Moroccan citizens in the Netherlands. She also commended the distinguished presence of Moroccans in the Netherlands and their integration into Dutch society.
Additionally, Ms. Désirée Bonis accentuated the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in opening new cooperation horizons between the two countries. She also revealed a future visit of a Dutch parliamentary delegation to Morocco, which will include meetings with Moroccan parliamentarians and officials.
