Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki received, on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, at the House’s headquarters, the Indonesian Ambassador to Rabat Hasrul Azwar.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives lauded the quality of relations linking the two countries. In this respect, he said, “Despite the geographical distance, Morocco and Indonesia maintain strong and good relations in all areas." Mr. El Malki seized this opportunity to extend his gratitude and consideration for the Indonesian Parliament's support for the request of the House of Representatives to become an observing member within the bodies of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
The Speaker of the House called for advancing the distinguished relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership, noting that Asia and Africa are emerging continents and that Morocco and Indonesia may work together to consolidate the economic, commercial, and agricultural exchange between the two continents.
For his part, the Indonesian Ambassador commended the entrenched friendship ties linking the two countries, noting that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between them. In the same respect, he noted that the Indonesian people had known Morocco for many centuries thanks to the voyager Ibn Battuta who visited the region, and thanks to Moroccan preachers who contributed to spreading Islam in its true tolerant and moderate image.
The Ambassador also presented several activities that the Indonesian Embassy organized to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and lauded Morocco's decision to increase the number of scholarships for Indonesian students who want to study in Morocco.
The two sides agreed on advancing the cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries and intensifying the exchange of visits between their parliamentarians, in a way that reinforces the friendship ties and cooperation and solidarity between them.
