Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki received, Wednesday, July 15th, 2020, at the House of Representatives, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Morocco Alex Geiger Soffia, upon the end of his diplomatic duties in the Kingdom.
On this occasion, the Ambassador commended the qualitative leap in the ties linking the two countries in the recent years. The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Chile will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year. The celebration will be an occasion to review the progress of cooperation relations between the two countries and advance them to higher levels. In this respect, the Ambassador stated that "Morocco is a key partner to Chile."
Also, Mr. Geiger Soffia lauded the relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries and the consistency of consultation and coordination between their parliamentarians. In the same respect, he recalled the visit of the Speaker of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies to Morocco earlier this year, which culminated in the conclusion of an Agreement on Parliamentary Dialogue between Morocco and Chile.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in reinforcing the cooperation ties between the two countries. He also reiterated that the Agreement on Parliamentary Dialogue between the Moroccan House of Representatives and the Chilean Chamber of Deputies is the first agreement of this type that the House concludes with a fellow legislative institution.
Also, Mr. El Malki noted that the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Morocco-Chile diplomatic relations next year will be an occasion to give new impetus to cooperation between the two legislative institutions, and the two countries in general.
It should be noted that the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile concluded in February 2020 an agreement on parliamentary dialogue. The agreement aims to institutionalize the committee on the parliamentary dialogue between the two Houses and create a space for an exchange of expertise and experiences in legislation. It also aims to increase the exchange of visits of the delegations of parliamentarians and officials of the two institutions to reinforce the contribution of parliamentary diplomacy to the advancement of official relations between the two countries' governments.
