Speaker of House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki held talks, Thursday, February 6th at the House’s headquarters, with US Ambassador to Morocco Mr. David Fischer, performing a courtesy visit following his appointment as new US Ambassador to Morocco.
The US Ambassador expressed his pride at representing his country in the Kingdom of Morocco, highlighting the excellent long-standing relations linking the two countries. In this respect, he said, “Morocco was the first country to recognize the independence of the United States of America.”
Mr. Fischer also affirmed his country’s will to strengthen its relations with Morocco, and to promote economic, commercial, and educational exchanges between the two countries. He also expressed his intention to focus, as Ambassador, on themes relative to youth, education, and cultural activities.
For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki noted that Morocco and the United States share excellent relations on all levels, namely politics, economy, diplomacy, culture, and security. He also recalled that the two countries are bound by a free-trade agreement.
Mr. El Malki also called for closer cooperation between the legislative institutions of both countries, highlighting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in opening up new horizons, and promoting bilateral relations towards a distinguished level of cooperation and dialogue.
