Speaker of House of Representatives Meets Chairpersons of Standing Committees on April 15th, 2020

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of standing committees on Wednesday, April 15th, 2020.

At the beginning of the meeting, the participants expressed their pride and appreciation of the measures and initiatives taken by Morocco under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, may God protect Him. They also considered those measures a pride to all Moroccans who have shown, in all hardships, their solidarity and unity, which boosts Morocco’s immunity when facing challenges.

The House’s Speaker and the chairpersons of standing committees expressed their full engagement in mobilizing all the assets available to the standing committees concerning legislation and Government control to communicate with the public and transmit their concerns, and present solutions and suggestions to the various Government sectors.

In this respect, the House’s Speaker recalled the importance of the meetings held by the Finance and Economic Development Committee, the Social Sectors Committee, the Productive Sectors Committee, and the Internal Affairs, Communes, Housing, and Urban Policy Committee on legislative and control matters that touch the economic, financial, health and security concerns of citizens, and Moroccan farmers, who, according to the participants, should be supported and provided with full assistance, especially considering the drought period ongoing in Morocco.

With regard to Moroccans stuck abroad, the participants reviewed the problematic situation of our fellow citizens who failed to return to Morocco, and the depth of their suffering, considering that they are away from their families. This issue was at the heart of a detailed meeting held by the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee. In that meeting, the participants commended the enormous efforts of Moroccan diplomatic missions to assist Moroccans. On that occasion, they expressed their concern regarding the return of said citizens and the provision of guarantees to achieve it through a clear plan. They also called for more efforts to support them and provide them with decent living conditions.

In the same respect, the meeting called the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee to prepare a detailed note that comprises all its demands and proposals. The note will be submitted to the Head of Government by the House’s Speaker.

Besides, the meeting discussed the latest call of HM King Mohammed VI, may God protect Him, in the form of declaring the launch of an African initiative to face Coronavirus, through practical implementation to assist African countries in the different steps of managing this pandemic via sharing good experiences and practices. The participants stressed the importance of this initiative, which affirms Morocco’s African depth, and its solidarity with African peoples.

Concerning the procedures and measures adopted by the House to carry out its constitutional tasks, the meeting reaffirmed that its practice follows the strict implementation of the Constitution with a spirit of integrity and national consensus.

As for organizing the works of the standing committees, the participants called for setting a detailed agenda on legislation and Government control, taking into consideration the requirements of national interest in terms of urgency.

Also, the House’s Speaker confirmed that reforming the House’s Rules of Procedure is open to discussion. He also affirmed that he would prepare an adequate framework to regulate this reform.
