Speaker of House of Representatives Meets Chairpersons of Parliamentary Groups and Caucus on April 15th, 2020

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of parliamentary groups and Caucuson Wednesday, April 15th, 2020. The meeting was devoted to discussing the agenda of the House with respect to legislation and control.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker and the chairpersons of parliamentary groups and Caucus recalled the resolutions and memoranda issued by the House’s bodies. They also affirmed the importance and efficiency of the approach adopted to manage the works of the House in terms of legislation and control, which aligns with the provisions of the Constitution.

The meeting also stressed the importance of the new outreach method adopted by the House, which increased its openness to the external environment and allowed various strata of Moroccan society to be closely informed about the core works and concerns of the legislative institution.

Also, the House’s components expressed, on this occasion, their engagement and agreement on the national rally around HM King Mohammed VI, may God protect Him. They also expressed their will to utilize all the Constitutional assets to efficiently contribute to the national effort led by His Majesty, may God protect Him.

As for legislation, the participants reviewed the legislative record of the House, namely Government and parliamentary bills. In this respect, they focused on the texts related to the necessities imposed by the current situation, and the required legal texts to support the social and economic sectors. In addition, they reviewed the legal texts relative to the healthcare system and their regulatory, professional, social, and institutional aspects. Hence, the participants agreed on establishing an ad hoc committee to implement a comprehensive vision on the forthcoming legislative reform, in cooperation and complementarity with the Government and the concerned ministry.

Regarding Government control, the meeting discussed the organization of the weekly session for oral questions which agenda includes the health sector. The participants agreed on the format of questions followed by discussion, following the provisions of Article 268 of the House’s Rules of Procedure.

The House’s Speaker and the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and Caucus reiterated their keenness to carry out the works of the House in matters of legislation and control following all the constitutional assurances. They also stressed the peculiarity of the current phase, which transcends circumstantial and insignificant conflicts, and entails the unity of ranks and the prioritization of the higher interest of the nation.
