Speaker of House of Representatives Meets Chairperson and Members of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group at Chilean Chamber of Deputies and Confirms: “The Phantom State is non-existent in Reality.”

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki held talks, Wednesday, February 5th at the House's headquarters, with Chairperson of Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Chilean Chamber of Deputies Mr. Gonzalo Fuenzalida Figueroa, currently on a working and friendship visit to Morocco alongside members of the group.

On this occasion, the House's Speaker reaffirmed that the visit of the Chilean Parliamentary delegation is a new milestone in consolidating relations between Parliaments of the two countries, commending the closeness between Chile and Morocco on all levels. In the same respect, he lauded the "wise and balanced Chilean foreign policy, which follows the UN system regarding the cause of Morocco's territorial integrity."

Besides, Mr. El Malki noted that Chile, like most world countries, does not recognize the existence of the pseudo-state. He said, "A situational analysis of the region shows the absence of the essential elements of a state, meaning land, people, and sovereignty, which proves that the UN does not recognize the pseudo-state 'SADR,' nor does the latter have any legitimacy or existence in reality." The Speaker also highlighted that all UN Security Council's latest resolutions point to autonomy as the appropriate solution to overcome this artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara, adding that "respecting the unity of peoples and countries are two pillars of ensuring peace and stability in the region."

Additionally, the House's Speaker commended the position of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies of supporting the autonomy initiative in the Kingdom's southern regions, expressing his satisfaction with the good relations linking both legislative institutions. He also called for the organization of a Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Forum every two years, which would be a platform for discussing means of promoting bilateral relations towards more cooperation and solidarity.

For his part, the Chairperson of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Chilean Chamber of deputies stated that the Chilean delegation performed a visit to Morocco's southern regions. In this respect, they reviewed the development that has taken place in the region and met with officials, electees, and tribal leaders, which helped them acquire a more profound understanding of the cause.

The members of the Chilean Parliamentary delegation, who represent different political movements, noted that they are impressed with the progress the Kingdom has made on all levels. They also highlighted the complementarity of both countries' economies. Additionally, they stressed the importance of stepping up commercial and economic exchanges between Chile and Morocco, in addition to increasing efforts to deal with the shared challenges relating to the digital revolution, water scarcity, and renewable energy.

It should be noted that Chairperson of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group at the House of Representatives, Mr. Cherkaoui Znaydi, also attended the meeting.
