Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the seat of the House, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Hon. Cheikh Ould Ahmed Ould Bayeh, currently on a working visit to our country with a high-level parliamentary delegation.

During their meeting, the two parties commended the distinguished historical ties linking the two countries and agreed to give new impetus to the relations between the two legislative institutions. The two parties also convened to work on the creation of a Morocco-Mauritania Parliamentary Forum and to intensify talks and coordination on the questions of mutual concern.

At the onset of the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives welcomed the visit of the Speaker of the Mauritanian National Assembly and his entourage. In the same respect, he stressed the importance of relations between the two countries, which have witnessed a significant leap under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani.

On the same occasion, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami shed light on several areas of parliamentary cooperation between the House of Representatives and the Mauritanian National Assembly, noting specifically the importance of exchanging experiences and expertise in digital transition, archives management, legislative action, and open parliament. In the same respect, he praised the distinguished parliamentary ties between the two legislative institutions.

For his part, the Speaker of the Mauritanian National Assembly underscored that his current visit to the Kingdom with a high-level parliamentary delegation aims to consolidate ties between the two legislative institutions in particular, and the two countries in general. On the same note, he added, "Our relations are already good, and we aspire to build partnerships that would benefit both countries."

Moreover, Hon. Cheikh Ould Ahmed Ould Bayeh highlighted the promising prospects for cooperation between the two countries at the economic and agricultural levels, noting the existence of major investment opportunities. In the same regard, he underlined the importance of joining forces and sharing the experiences and expertise of both countries.

The meeting was attended, from the Mauritanian side, by Ms. Zainab Bint al-Taki, the Chairperson of the Mauritania-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, and the members of the National Assembly: Fatima Aguid, Mohamed Ayeh, Yoro Barry, Ahmed Abdellah, Ishaq Ahmed Miskah, Sayed Ahmed Douiri, Ahmadi  Hammadi, Malik Anin Mohamed, Tout Ghayeb, and Maimona Yarkit Masoud. The meeting was also attended, from the House of Representatives, by the First Deputy Speaker of the House, Rep. Mohamed Sabbari, and Rep. Sidi Saleh Idrissi, the Chairperson of the Morocco-Mauritania Parliamentary Friendship Group.
