Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, held talks on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the seat of the House, with the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Mr. Faiq Zidan, and the judicial delegation accompanying him, as part of a courtesy visit to the House of Representatives. The talks featured the presence of the Chargé d'affaires at the Iraqi Embassy, Dr. Bhutan Dizayee, and other members of the diplomatic corps.

The Iraqi judicial delegation includes Judge Adel Abdulrazzaq, President of the Court of Appeal in Basra; Judge Hassan Saudi Hassan, President of the Court of Appeal in Najaf; Judge Raid Hamed Hussein, President of the Court of Nineveh; Ms. Naouar Oubaid Ali, assistant prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor's Office; Ms. Loubna Moheb Ahmed, General Director of the Cabinet of the President of Supreme Judicial Council and the Department of Affairs of Justice and members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office; and Mr. Alae Merzeh Mohammed, the personal assistant of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council.

During their talks, the two parties stressed the depth of the historical ties linking the two countries on the basis of mutual respect for their territorial integrity and sovereignty. The two parties also highlighted the mutations and reforms the judicial systems in Morocco and Iraq witnessed. Besides, they underscored the importance of such visits in exchanging experiences and expertise.

On this occasion, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami, gave an overview of the Moroccan parliamentary experience under the 2011 Constitution, the prerogatives entrusted to the House of Representatives, and the relations of the legislative branch with the other branches, particularly the judiciary.

For his part, Mr. Faiq Zidan shed light on the advancements of the Iraqi judicial system and the missions and competencies of the Supreme Judicial Council as the supreme administrative authority in charge of regulating ordinary justice. The Iraqi Official also presented the structuring and formation of the Council and its relations with the other branches and Iraqi institutions.
