Speaker of the House of Representatives Holds Talks with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the House, with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta, Mr. Evarist Bartolo, currently on a working visit to our country.

The talks focused on the means to consolidate bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly at the parliamentary level. The two sides also discussed several regional and international questions of mutual interest.

During this meeting, Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami lauded the excellent relations linking the two countries and their friendly peoples. In this respect, he noted that the House of Representatives initiated the establishment of friendship groups with several countries, including Malta, following the legislative elections that took place last year in our country. These groups will be a mechanism to advance bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

On the same occasion, the Speaker of the House of Representatives called for consolidating joint cooperation between the two countries under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, which our country will preside. He also called for joining forces to address the challenges that arise in the Mediterranean region, namely security, peace, migration, climate change, and water and food security.

Mr. Talbi El Alami reiterated his thanks to the Maltese Minister of Foreign and European Affairs for his country's position regarding the cause of the Moroccan Sahara and its commitment to international legality and the UN resolutions in this regard.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta expressed his will to consolidate the cooperation ties between the two countries, namely in the parliamentary aspect. In this context, he highlighted the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in reinforcing and consolidating the cooperation and friendship bonds between the two countries and advancing constant dialogue and communication.
