Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and caucus. The meeting discussed the agenda of the House.
The House's Speaker started the meeting by stressing the importance of implementing the provisions of Article 68 of the Constitution, which enabled the convention of a joint plenary sitting between both Houses of the Parliament to listen to information on the developments of managing the sanitary lockdown after May 20th.
The meeting also reviewed the information presented by the Head of Government, especially the ones regarding the extension of the state of public health emergency, and the achievements of Morocco in this regard.
Besides, the meeting discussed the presented data relative to the mechanisms and methodology adopted to deal with this sanitary crisis, which are based on governance, anticipation, and outreach. Also, the meeting stressed the importance of widening the scope of discussion with political parties, unions, and economic actors in the course of drafting the amending finance bill that the Government will present before the House of Representatives in the forthcoming weeks.
In addition, the participants reaffirmed the significance of said data. In the same respect, they agreed on the convention of a plenary sitting to discuss the address of the Head of Government and comment on it. The sitting will take place on Wednesday, May 20th, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.
As for legislation, the meeting confirmed the importance of the resolution that stipulates the creation of an interim thematic working group in charge of the laws relative to the healthcare system, and the means to update and amend them so that they meet the necessity for an advanced legal framework that responds to the needs of Moroccans.
The meeting also recalled the continuous legislative initiatives taken by the parliamentary groups and caucus during the sanitary lockdown in the form of parliamentary bills, which are twenty bills. The House's components confirmed that the adoption of these bills would contribute actively to resolving several social and economic issues.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the decisions on precautionary measures taken by the Board of the House in agreement with the House's components. The participants reiterated the efficiency of these measures, which aim, first and foremost, to establish protective health guarantees for the members of the House.
The meeting was also an occasion to praise the positions of the House members, who showed commitment and keenness to perform their constitutional duty through active presence and participation. The participants also reaffirmed the temporariness of those measures, which did not impede the House's performance of its constitutional tasks.
