Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and caucus on Monday, February 1st, 2021. The meeting was devoted to the House’s work program at the level of control and legislation.
At the start of the meeting, the Speaker and the House components recalled the main events that marked the country during the last period, most important of which was launching the national anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God preserve him. The Speaker and the House components expressed their pride in this Royal initiative and their high esteem for the Moroccan model, lead by His Majesty the King, in fighting COVID-19, in addition to the noble positions and sacrifices made by the Moroccan people in addressing its various repercussions.
The reception by His Majesty the King, may God preserve him, of the first dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine is emblematic to all Moroccans. It would establish a sense of reassurance and allay suspicions, and restore their hope in overcoming this tough juncture. It will also encourage them to collectively engage in the precautionary measures during and following the vaccination campaign to ensure citizens' safety.
The Morocco-Nigeria relations were also a headline on the national scene. In this respect, the Speaker of the House and its components recalled the subjects of the phone call between His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, and His Highness the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The call stressed the mutual keenness of the two parties to pursue the strategic projects the two countries launched, mainly the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline and the establishment of a factory for fertilizer production in Nigeria.
Also, the participants affirmed the importance of African cooperation, to which His Majesty the King gave a special dimension through his multiple visits to African countries, which has created a new sustainable framework for bilateral relations, resulting in projects and programs of developmental and strategic aspects.
As regards the House's work program in control, the meeting discussed the topic of the monthly plenary sitting for oral questions on general policy, which was decided by the House bodies to tackle "Government Policy to Support National Products." The meeting also debated the topic of the next plenary sitting for oral questions, scheduled for Monday, February 8th, 2021, which will cover the social and infrastructure sectors.
Besides, the participants stressed the importance of the control action, particularly exploratory missions, which have been given further attention by the nation's representatives, reflected in the launch of several missions on various social and economic issues. The reports of the missions have been of additional value in introducing some projects, programs, and the management of some institutions. These reports were drafted in high professionalism and included clear recommendations to overcome some flaws and challenges, in close coordination with the Government.
As for the House’s work program in legislation, the participants presented the program of plenary sittings scheduled for the rest of this session, affirming the significance of the legislative texts approved during this session, which amount to 40 bills.
In the same respect, the participants deliberated on the plenary sittings of Tuesday, February 9th, and Wednesday, February 10th. The latter will be devoted to voting on several finalized bills, while the afternoon sitting will be devoted to the legislative session's closure.
