Speaker of House of Representatives Holds Meeting with Chairpersons of Parliamentary Groups and Caucus on Monday, July 6th, 2020

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and caucus on Monday, July 6th, 2020. The meeting was devoted to the work plan of the House.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the House and the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and caucus discussed the latest report issued by Amnesty International on June 22nd, 2020. The report is part of several reports through which this organization is accustomed to making false and malicious allegations to devalue the Moroccan gains and the successive and constant achievements that the Kingdom has accumulated regarding human rights as they are universally recognized.

In the same meeting, the House components expressed their absolute rejection of the fallacious information included in the report, which targets national institutions and tries desperately to attenuate the human rights journey of our country.

The meeting was also an opportunity to review Morocco’s efforts to consolidate and protect human rights. Such efforts that Morocco has put, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI may God protect him, as a major and constant priority in the management of state affairs, and which all the political components of the House of Representatives have been keen to consolidate at the level of national legislation, the implementation of international conventions in this area, the advanced roles of human rights institutions, and the continuous use of control mechanisms, in which the issue of human rights receives particular attention from the nation’s representatives.

After they expressed their absolute rejection of Amnesty International’s allegations, the House’s components called on the organization to advance its work and investigations to the nobility of its mission and restrain from taking advantage of its status to damage the reputation of Morocco. According to them, the Kingdom will always remain strong and united against any unjust act intended to damage its achievements.

On another note, the meeting discussed the weekly control sitting that will be held on Monday, July 6th, 2020. The sitting’s agenda includes the sectors of education, industry, and trade. Besides, the meeting also set the agenda for the plenary sitting of Monday, July 13th, 2020, to tackle the sectors of agriculture, equipment, transport, employment, and vocational integration.

In the context of preparing for the monthly plenary sitting scheduled for Monday, July 20th, 2020, the participants discussed several proposals that respond to the questions of the current phase and have agreed to present the said proposals at the next meeting.

The meeting also deliberated on the communications meeting on “Government Clarifications Concerning the Report issued by Amnesty International on June 22nd, 2020.” The meeting will be held with the Minister of State in charge of Human Rights and Relations with Parliament and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Expatriates, with the presence of all the House components. According to the House’s Speaker, the meeting will be followed by meetings of the concerned committees, namely the Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights Committee, and the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee, to discuss the matter comprehensively.
