Speaker of House of Representatives Holds Meeting with Chairpersons of Parliamentary Groups and Caucus on June 22nd, 2020

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and caucus on Monday, June 22nd, 2020. The meeting was devoted to discussing the work plan of the House.

Concerning control, the House components noted the positive output of the work of standing committees, whose meetings followed up with several social, economic, and security-related issues and concerns of citizens. The participants also reviewed the pace of legislative work, the prospects of control and legislation, and the initiatives that would enrich the record of the session in those two aspects.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming work plan of the House at the level of organizing the weekly plenary sittings for oral questions. In this respect, the House components stressed the importance given to the ongoing issues in our country, the successive developments regarding COVID-19, and to the state of public health emergency. They also affirmed that the legislative institution should constitute the primary platform for the discussion of citizens' concerns. Besides, the House components asserted the need for more mobilization and national effort. In addition, they called the Government to interact continuously and quickly with the demands and proposals of deputies, within a context of cooperation with the aim of serving the higher interest of the country.

Additionally, the meeting tackled the precautionary measures in force, and the gradual approach adopted by the House in the attendance of the activities of committees and the plenary sittings, and in the organization of weekly control sittings. Such measures, according to the House's Speaker, were discussed and decided upon via a participatory approach that involved all bodies of the House.
