Speaker of the House of Representatives Hails Progress of Cooperation between Morocco and Rwanda under Leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and President Paul Kagamé

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki affirmed in his statement on Friday, April 07, 2021, during his participation in a ceremony held at the Embassy of Rwanda in Rabat in commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis in the Republic of Rwanda that “these crimes are of the most atrocious genocides that happened during the last century, not only for the large number of casualties but for transgressing the unity of Rwandans and the rules of coexistence.” The Speaker of the House expressed his solidarity and sympathy with the families of the victims and all the Rwandan people “who strive to entrench the culture of human rights in their path towards development and prosperity.”

Mr. El Malki noted that this remembrance confirms that the values of coexistence, respect for others, tolerance, and solidarity are achievements for human civilization in its fight against extremism and brutality that emanate from the propagation of obscurantist ideas. The Speaker focused on the lessons drawn from this experience and called for resolutely addressing the advocates of hate speeches that fuel the ethnic and religious conflicts.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives also lauded the efforts of the President of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E. Paul Kagamé, whose leadership achieved national reconciliation and unity between the components of the Rwandan population and contributed to constructing a Rwandan State that builds upon its past to construct its future. Mr. El Malki expressed his consideration for the tremendous work of Rwanda to preserve the memory of this tragic event.

Besides, Mr. El Malki seized the opportunity to recall the strength of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Rwanda and the dynamic marking this partnership, as His Majesty King Mohammed VI and H.E. Paul Kagamé exchanged several visits marked by developing an innovative model for South-South cooperation.

The Speaker noted that the leaders of the two countries share the same strategic vision for the development of Africa and believe in its potential, he said, noting the creation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) that took place under the chair of Rwanda during the 10th extraordinary summit of the African Union (AU).

At the parliamentary level, the Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the partnership and cooperation ties linking the legislative institutions of the two countries, recalling the visit of the Speaker of the Rwandan Chamber of Deputies to the Kingdom in 2018 and lauding the growing dynamic of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
