Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held a meeting on Monday, December 7th, 2020, at the House's headquarters, with the Moroccan members of the Morocco-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, chaired by Chaoui Belassal.
In this meeting, where the parties evaluated the annual achievements of the joint parliamentary committee and defined the next projects of political cooperation between Morocco and the European Union, Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki affirmed the mutual adherence to the rich and multidimensional Morocco-Europe exemplary partnership, which is the result of more than 50 years of work. He also called for preserving this partnership and advancing it in its different political, social, economic, and security aspects.
The meeting comes, on the one hand, to consolidate the Moroccan dialogue regarding its partnership with the European side, and, on the other hand, to present harmonious responses regarding topics of mutual interest, including the European Neighborhood Policy, the security issues, the issues of migration, human development, fight against terrorism, the economic and commercial cooperation, and the relations between the European Union, Morocco, and the African Union.
To seize all the available cooperation opportunities, especially amidst the current epidemiological situation, and to consolidate the Euro-Moroccan consultation and dialogue framework and exchange of expertise, the participants agreed on organizing a seminar on the role of the Morocco-Europe partnership in solidifying the African economy following the coronavirus pandemic, and to shed light on the importance of the overland trade between Morocco and African countries, and between Europe and Africa.
In this respect, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki noted that it is time to propose and define actual joint projects between Morocco and Europe that can give a strong and real push to the African economy within a trilateral partnership between Morocco, Europe, and Africa. This will surely contribute to a regional and economic inclusion of the Sahel and Sahara region by stimulating commercial exchanges, creating job opportunities, and eradicating poverty; a powerful and effective response against the terrorist movements active in the region.
