Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki received, on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021, at the House’s headquarters, a delegation of General Secretaries of the youth wings of the political parties and other young deputies of the House of Representatives.
In this meeting, the delegation members presented the main axes of their plea in the run-up to the upcoming elections. They also affirmed the importance of engaging youth in political decision making as stipulated in the 2011 Constitution of the Kingdom. In this respect, they considered the “national list of youth” an important achievement that stimulates the constructive contribution to consolidating democracy in our country.
The delegation members also lauded the dynamism created by young deputies in the House’s action and their serious work during this legislature and the previous ones. Besides, they called for enlarging the scope of youth representation in the policy-making organs and elected bodies, considering that any regression in such achievements is a downturn of the path in which our country has engaged since adopting the Constitution.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives affirmed that the presence of youth had given new impetus to the parliamentary life in our country. In this respect, he stated that "it is impossible to picture a future parliament without the significant representation of youth and women." He also noted that youth had played key roles in the different stages of Moroccan history, highlighting that most historical leaders of the liberation movement against the colonialism were youth.
Mr. El Malki stressed that democratic and political work relies on accumulation and adjusting to the juncture requirements. In the same respect, he called for consolidating and developing the realized achievements, noting that "speeding up the democratic construction and social development in all areas cannot be achieved without the active participation of youth."
