The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr. Tiny Kox, received the Moroccan parliamentary delegation taking part in the second part of the 2022 Ordinary Session of the Assembly, which kicked off on April 25.
During the meeting, Mr. Kox highlighted the prominence of the status of a partner for democracy acquired by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2011. The President of the PACE also noted the promising perspectives of developing this status towards further advanced collaboration to accompany the new partners.
In this respect, he stated, “the Kingdom of Morocco is our first partner for democracy. Given the achievements it has realized in coordination with the PACE, it should be soon granted the status of ‘Senior Partner.’” He further added, “We have yet to learn more from the Kingdom of Morocco.”
In the same vein, the Head of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation extended her thanks to the President of the Pace for the interest he has been granting the Moroccan democratic experience. On this matter, she underscored, “The maturity of this experience and the path it has pursued with the help of the PACE for more than a decade must be consolidated through a further advanced partnership.”
On the topic of our southern provinces, the European official endorsed the position of the Moroccan side on the centrality of the UN process.
It should be noted that the Moroccan parliamentary delegation will actively take part, in the following days, in the works of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy; the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights; the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development; the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons; the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media; and the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination.
