Parliamentary Delegation Takes Part in Eighth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians

A parliamentary delegation is taking part in the Eighth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Egyptian House of Representatives, on the theme: "Young MPs for climate action," on June 15-16, 2022, in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The parliamentary delegation includes:

- Rep. Yasmine Lemghour, from the Group of the National Rally of Independents at the House of Representatives;

- Rep. Hayat Laaraych, from the Socialist Group at the House of Representatives;

- Cllr.  Kamal Ait Mik, from the Group of the National Rally of Independents at the House of Councilors.

The participants in the Conference shall address several topics, including the state of climate change, its impact, and human rights; parliamentary action to fight climate change; and climate change support for developing countries.

In her intervention, Rep. Yasmine Lemghour highlighted the engagement of the Kingdom of Morocco in the global effort toward achieving climate justice, which aligns with the philosophy and approaches of His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the importance of the topic of climate change as one of the most prominent challenges of the future.

For her part, Rep. Hayat Laaraych gave an overview of the contribution of the Moroccan Parliament through legislation and parliamentary diplomacy in favor of the environment cause. She also shed light on the major national laws adopted as part of the attempts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and stressed the vital role of young parliamentarians in persuading governments and institutions to enact laws that serve the matter of climate change.

Cllr. Kamal Ait Mik, on the other hand, tackled the practical measures taken by the Moroccan Parliament to limit the environmental impact and climate imbalances by opting for the use of energy that is derived from renewable sources and the acquisition of new-generation non-polluting equipment that does not pollute the environment, in implementation of the "Eco-Parliament Plan."

It should be noted that the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, organized yearly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, is an opportunity for young parliamentarians to gather, exchange expertise, learn, and develop innovative joint strategies to consolidate youth empowerment.
