Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation Takes Part in 77th Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union

A parliamentary delegation from both Houses of the Moroccan Parliament took part in the 77th session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU), organized in collaboration with the Rwandan Parliament on March 10-11, in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.

The delegation included:

- Rep. Nadia Bouzandoufa (Group of Authenticity and Modernity - House of Representatives);

- Rep. Cherkaoui Znaidi (Socialist Group - House of Representatives);

- Cllr. Khalihenna El Karch (Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) - House of Councilors).

This session was opened by two addresses, given respectively by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Rwanda, Donatille Mukabalisa, and the President of the APU and the Head of its Executive Committee, Mohamed Ali Houmed. In their addresses, the two officials noted that this meeting is an opportunity to discuss common issues of the African peoples and to work for the sharing and exchange of experiences and good practices in various areas, including those related to the rational management of COVID-19.

A statement by the Moroccan parliamentary delegation tackled the issues that are troubling Africa, in particular terrorism and extremism. In this respect, they gave an overview of the Moroccan experience in combating this phenomenon, the question of the representativeness of women and their access to decision-making positions, and the management of Covid-19. The statement also discussed the question of stability and the importance of opening borders between African States, the equitable distribution of the continent's wealth among its peoples, and ways to ensure a decent life for Africans.

During the discussion of the item on the examination of the audited annual accounts for the fiscal years 2020 and 2021, an ad hoc committee, including among its members Cllr. Khellihenna El Karch (CDT), was set up to monitor the financial engagements of the APU Member States.

On the sidelines of this session, the parliamentary delegation had two important meetings with the Speaker of the Rwandan Chamber of Deputies, Mrs. Mukabalisa Donatille, and Mr. Iyamuremye Augustin, Speaker of the Rwandan Senate. The meetings featured  the discussion of numerous issues relating to the reinforcement of the friendship and cooperation ties linking the legislative institutions of the two countries, their bilateral partnership, the legal framework regulating cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic field, and the exchange of experience and investment. The two parties also stressed the imperative of establishing bilateral parliamentary friendship groups.

The parliamentary delegation also held intensive bilateral meetings with a number of delegations of friendly countries participating in this session, during which they discussed ways of improving cooperation and strengthening friendship. The meetings included the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Niger and Djibouti.
