Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation to 34th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Meets Iraqi Economic Actors

On the sidelines of its participation in the 34th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Baghdad, Iraq, on February 23-26, 2023, the Moroccan delegation headed by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rep. Hassan Benomar, alongside Representatives and Councilors, held an important meeting with the members of the Iraqi Economic Council, chaired by Mr. Ibrahim Al Baghdadi, alongside members of the Iraqi House of Representatives and prominent businessmen and investors.

The two parties discussed the means and prospects of economic cooperation and partnership between the two brotherly countries. They also went over the means to reinforce the friendship bonds linking the Moroccan and Iraqi people.

During the meeting, the members of the Iraqi delegation highlighted the transformations in the Republic of Iraq during the recent years, noting that it enjoys political and economic stability and has overcome the conflicts and troubles of the past era, hence becoming a good destination that attracts investments in various areas.

Moreover, the Iraqi party expressed great desire in economic cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco and the creation of Iraqi investments in the Kingdom, considering the economic and natural resources of our country and its capacities as a fertile land for economic and commercial relations between the two countries. At the same time, they noted the opportunity to benefit from the incentives offered by the Moroccan market, especially that the Kingdom enjoys a strategic position as it is close to the European Union and a gate to Africa.

Besides, the Iraqi delegation thanked His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the decision to reopen the Embassy of the Kingdom in Baghdad on January 28, 2023, as part of consolidating the strong and entrenched ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Iraq.

For their part, the Moroccan delegation thanked the Iraqi delegation for the warm welcome, and expressed their pride of the depth of Morocco-Iraq relations, reflected by the historical positions of the Republic of Iraq in support of the Moroccan sovereignty over it southern provinces, expressed by the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs during the official visit of the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, in January 2023.

On the same occasion, the Moroccan delegation praised the development of the Republic of Iraq and its capabilities that enable the construction of economic, commercial, and cultural ties, and allow for joint action in the Arab, Islamic, and international sphere, which would have a positive impact on the advancement of relations between the two brotherly countries and their people.

In the same respect, the Moroccan delegation stressed the imperative of finding the adequate means to accelerate the pace of cooperation in all areas in a way that serves both countries' interests.

The two parties concluded the meeting by agreeing on the elaboration of a joint cooperation strategy in economy, trade, social affairs, and culture, in addition to the exchange of expertise between Moroccan actors and their Iraqi counterparts.
